Smith Cart can be used if you are managing/shipping your inventory or if you are using a 3rd party as a drop shipper. Drop shipping is a fulfillment model that allows you to buy products individually from a wholesaler and ship them directly to your customer.
Instead of purchasing a large amount of inventory, you simply partner with a drop shipping supplier and list their merchandise for sale. Then, once you receive an order you forward it to the supplier for fulfillment. The supplier will ship the product directly from their warehouse to your customer, and charge you only for the price of the shipped item.
To begin the setup process, you need to set up a Manufacturer which you then assign to the Product to be drop-shipped. For Manufacturer setup instructions, please see the Manage Manufacturers KB article.
Additionally, you need to configure a few settings within the Store Settings. Then, whenever the Product is ordered by a Customer, your store will automatically send an order invoice email to the appropriate Manufacturer, along with the ship-to address and other details the vendor needs to fulfill the order.

To send an order email to a Manufacturer or 3rd party order fulfillment company who will ship products directly to customers do the following:
- Navigate to the BuyNow module and from the Store Admin Menu, hover over Setup and select Store Settings as follows:
- Scroll down to the Email section.
- Check the checkbox titled Email Manufacturers
When the Email Manufacturers setting is enabled, the Cart will send an email confirmation on a successful order to all the manufacturers associated with the products ordered on successful order. Each manufacturer will receive a unique email that includes only product line items that apply to the manufacturer. The email confirmation to the manufacturer can be used as a pick ticket for your drop shipper to ship the items to the customer.
- (Optional) Check the checkbox titled Third Party CC
When the Third Party CC setting is enabled, a carbon copy (CC) email of the automated order confirmation Email will be sent after a successful purchase.

Since drop-shipped Products are shipped by the Manufacturer, you may want to include their shipping costs in the Customer's Order Total. Also, in order to have the shipping costs calculate accurately for your drop-shipped products, you should make sure the shipping origin for that product is your Manufacturer's location, not your Store location.
To configure the calculation of shipping costs for Products with a different shipping origin, the Drop Ship from Manufacturer setting should be enabled. To this setting, take the following steps:
Please Note: The settings are only available if the Shipping Calculator shipping option is enabled on the Shipping Setup screen.
- Navigate to the BuyNow module and from the Store Admin Menu, hover over Setup and select Shipping as follows:
- Check the checkbox titled Drop Ship from Manufacturer
When checked the shipping calculator will use the address defined for the manufacturer and assigned to a Product as the ship from address.
- (Optional) Check the checkbox titled Enable Out of Stock Rule
This checkbox only applies to UPS shipping calculator. When checked and a product in the cart has a zero quantity on hand the cart page will only display the UPS ground ship method and display a message "Overnight shipping is not an option for product xyz". This indicates the product needs to be drop shipped.
In addition to the above steps, you should clearly mention on the product page that these products will be shipped from a Manufacturer, so customers will expect them to be shipped separately from any other products ordered from a different company and location.
